Begun in 2011, Wings has a well-organized structure designed to provide maximum support to our advocates, partners and participants. Working closely with over 30 Santa Cruz County case managers from over 11 county and city organizations, our Wings master dispatcher coordinates task requests and assignments, eliminating stress and providing flexibility for advocates to work within their schedules.
The requests we receive come directly from our partner case managers and are always centered around helping the homeless find a home and staying housed so healing can begin. |
AdvocatesOur team of advocates are caring volunteers who are dedicated to support individuals and families in their walk out of homelessness. Working with professional case managers, we volunteer our time and talent to help homeless participants complete tasks and obtain resources needed to become housed and self-sufficient.
Our advocates and case managers meet monthly to share a meal, celebrate our collective successes and contribute to planning for the future. This is an important part of the Wings volunteer commitment. "From clients getting a new haircut, a notarized application for a birth certificate, or a ride to the doctor, Wings offers a wide array of supportive services that helps bridge the gap in resources and makes a big impact in the lives of my clients." |
Leadership
The operational leadership team acts as the main liaison between the professional case managers, partner agencies and churches. They also define and ensure the boundaries for our ministry and act to make sure all participants and advocates are safe and successful.
Supporting our advocates in community is an important part of what we do. "One of the greatest obstacles to accessing services can be not having proper identification. They often need to get their birth certificate reissued in order to replace the ID and this process can be very time- consuming and costly. The Wings volunteers have made this process accessible, convenient and free to our clients. They have removed one significant obstacle that allows our clients to do things like access specialty medical care, apply for housing vouchers, access day service programs, and much more." |
